DESCRIPTION:The Canadian Museum for Human Rights, the Centre for Human Rights Research and the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Law are co-organizing and co-sponsoring a special event called “Innocents Behind Bars: Systemic Racism and Wrongful Convictions.”\nThis event is a free panel open to the public, and hosted at the MTS classroom at the CMHR.\nThis event is inspired by the acquittal of Allan Woodhouse and Brian Anderson ( https://www.aptnnews.ca/national-news/wrongfully-convicted-allan-woodhouse-brian-anderson/Allan%20Woodhouse%20and%20Brian%20Anderson%20who%20were%20wrongfully%20convincted ) for a murder they did not commit for 50 years. \nWe are bringing leaders of the police torture justice/reparations movement in Chicago into conversation with those working on demanding justice for Indigenous peoples wrongly imprisoned here in Canada.\nConfirmed guests are: \nJames Lockyer, C.M., Founding Director, Innocence Canada\nAmanda Carling, CEO, BC First Nations Justice Council\nAlice Kim, Centre for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture, University of Chicago\nGregory Banks, Torture Survivor and Learning Fellow, Chicago Torture Justice Center\n\nFacilitated by Dr. Niigaan Sinclair, Professor, Indigenous Studies, University of Manitoba\nRegister now.\n
