SUMMARY:Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Family Division of the Manitoba Court of King’s Bench:  A Symposium on Challenges and Innovations
DESCRIPTION:In June 1984, the Family Division of the Court of Queen’s Bench was created with specialized judges to hear family law proceedings in one unified court.\nOn Friday, June 21, 2024, a symposium to celebrate the 40-year anniversary of the Manitoba Court of King’s Bench Family Division will be held at the RBC Convention Centre from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.\nThis event will highlight important changes in Manitoba’s family law legislation and the significant improvements made through the development of innovative court case flow models in child protection and family law.\nThe Honourable Sheilah L. Martin, Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, will provide the keynote address.\nDr. Laurel Sakaluk, board member of the Vanier Institute of the Family will present an “Overview of the Canadian Family”.  Dr. Sakaluk is an enthusiastic professor, with Gender, Family & Policy Studies of the Department of Human Ecology at the University of Alberta.\nProfessor Emeritus Rollie Thompson, of the Faculty of Law at Dalhousie University, will speak on “The Family in the Eyes of the Law”.\nThe presentations will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with lunch to follow.\nRegistration for this event is available through the MBA at: https://www.cbapd.org/details_en.aspx?id=MB_MB24FAM03A ( https://www.cbapd.org/details_en.aspx?id=MB_MB24FAM03A ) or by e-mail at sections@cba-mb.ca ( mailto:sections@cba-mb.ca ).  Please indicate any dietary restrictions at the time of registration.  Ticket cost is $75.00.  Seating is limited.  Please register before Friday, June 7, 2024.\n
