SUMMARY:Selecting and Collaborating with External Counsel in an Era of Global Uncertainty
DESCRIPTION:Building trusted relationships with external counsel has become more important than ever. This means in-house teams need to be proactive when it comes to getting the most out of their law firm relationships. The function of in-house legal has evolved from being an internal cost-centre into a strategic advisor guiding the growth of the business. With that evolution, both the demand for corporate legal services and the supply side have changed, mostly for the benefit of buyers that have the sophistication to leverage different resources to satisfy different types of demand.\nThis interactive discussion will explore how in-house counsel can best collaborate with external counsel, especially across multiple jurisdictions, including best practices for engaging with firms globally. The session will also delve into procurement law best practices and discuss practical tips for establishing new relationships, common pitfalls in deriving value from external counsel appointments, aligning external counsel to the changing requirements of business, and successful approaches for managing law firm relationships.\nA Best Practices Guide for Preparing Requests for Proposals will be provided to attendees upon request.\nA networking reception with food and beverages provided by TDS will follow the session.\nPlease RSVP to the Manitoba Bar Association.\nAttendance at this MBA Section meeting can be applied towards your Law Society of Manitoba’s Continuing Professional Development requirement for a maximum of 2 hours.\n
