SUMMARY:Bill 51, The Public Sector Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Governance Act
DESCRIPTION:Bill 51, The Public Sector Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity Governance Act, was introduced in Manitoba on March 17, 2026. It received third reading on May 5th and will come into force upon proclamation. It will apply to public sector entities, including government agencies, health authorities, universities, school divisions and municipalities. Regulations under the Act may require disclosure of the use of artificial intelligence systems; the development of accountability frameworks; and the reporting of cybersecurity incidents. The regulations could also set technical standards for the use of artificial intelligence systems and cybersecurity. In addition, the minister may issue directives about cybersecurity to specific public sector entities. In this session, Danielle Grzybowski, Co-Chair of the MBA Tech & IP Section, will provide an overview of this bill and similar initiatives across the country.\n
