The MBA wants to show non-members what they’re missing!!  \nTOPIC: Best Practices in Virtual Court\nDATE: Tuesday, May 18, 2021\nTIME: 12:00 Noon – 1:30pm\nLOCATION: Zoom Video Conference\nSPEAKERS:\nJudge Murray Thompson, Provincial Court of Manitoba\nRyan Amy, Brodsky Amy & Gould\nMonique Cam, Manitoba Justice – Prosecutions Service Division\nMODERATOR: Bryton Moen, Manitoba Justice – Prosecutions Service Division\n“You’re on mute.” Those words have become prevalent in recent times and the increased use of technology is transforming not only our lives, but the court. Please join our panel, which includes representatives from the Crown, defence and the judiciary to learn best practices for virtual court appearances including both trials and dispositions.\nIf you have any questions on the topic in advance, or specific areas you would like addressed by the panel, please forward them to Bryton Moen at bryton.moen@gov.mb.ca.\nPlease RSVP (PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED) to the Manitoba Bar Association online at www.cbapd.org.\nYou will need a computer or laptop (PC or Mac), smartphone or tablet with a microphone and webcam (built-in or external) and an internet connection.\nIf you will be participating from a laptop, you would also need to install a Zoom Client for Meetings from this site: https://zoom.us/download. If you are unsure whether you have the latest version of Zoom, please follow the instructions HERE.\nIf you are planning to participate from smartphone or tablet you would need to install an App from the Apple Store or Google Play.   if you are installing the app from the Apple Store or Google Play to use on an iPad, iPhone or Android device or tablet the free app is called “Zoom Cloud Meetings”.\nWe would recommend that you have either the Zoom Cloud Meetings App or the Zoom Client for Meetings downloaded at least 15 minutes before the meeting.\nWhen you do join, please allow your device to join with audio.  This feature can be found under Join Options in an Apple or Android device or Join with Computer Audio if you are participating on a laptop.\nAll participants should ensure they have set up their Zoom information to display your actual name (not just your device name) so that everyone knows who is on the call and anyone not invited to attend will be more easily identified, this also helps us properly track attendance at PD sessions.\nIf you are having troubles, please email sections@cba-mb.ca ( mailto:sections@cba-mb.ca ).\nAt approximately 9:30am on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 an email will be sent from the MBA advising you of the link that you will click on to join the Zoom video conference meeting.  So it will be important to register before 5:00pm on Monday, May 17, 2021.\nAttendance at this MBA Section meeting can be applied towards your Law Society of Manitoba’s Continuing Professional Development requirement for a maximum of 1.5 hours.\nBryton Moen\nChair, MBA Constitutional/ Human Rights Section\nManitoba Justice – Prosecutions Service Division\nBryton.Moen@gov.mb.ca\n
