Adoption Basics – Getting it Right

Practising in the area of adoption can be meaningful and “feel good” work, but it requires careful attention to statutory requirements, procedural steps, and coordination with multiple parties involved in the adoption process. This continuing legal education session is designed to provide lawyers and legal practitioners with a practical overview of adoption basics in Manitoba, with a focus on “getting it right” from the outset, including procedural expectations, documentation requirements, and best practices.

The panel features experienced professionals who bring complementary perspectives from the Court, government, and private practice:

  • Jill MacLeod, Deputy Registrar, Court of King’s Bench (Winnipeg)
  • Dee Bertossa, Adoption and Placement Specialist, Department of Families
  • Renée Nichols, Lawyer, Mediator and Collaborative Professional, KMMG Law

Together, the panel will offer practical insights to assist counsel in advancing adoption matters efficiently and in accordance with legislative and court requirements.

Manitoba Law Library will close at 11am on June 11 for a private event.
Staff will be available by email for research and reference questions.
