Child Protection

Jointly presented by The Law Society of Manitoba and
The Court of King’s Bench and Provincial Court Judges

Keynote speaker Dr. Nicole Sherren will share neuroscientific evidence about the impact of adverse childhood experiences on learning, social and health outcomes later in a person’s life.

You will learn about:

  • How brains are built;
  • Why significant stress early in life, such as exposure to abuse, neglect, conflict and addiction, is harmful to healthy brain development;
  • Epigenetics and intergenerational trauma; and
  • Implications for child and family legal service providers.

The balance of the program will reinforce the basics, including:

  • King’s Bench and Provincial Court process overview;
  • Lawyers’ tips from apprehension to intake – what I wish knew when I started practice;
  • Best practices from the Bench; and
  • Case law update.
