Issues Respecting Property Held for Minors

Advising the Executor / Trustee / Guardian: This session will focus on issues relating to the administration and management of assets held on behalf of a minors. Topics to be discussed include review of a number of pieces of legislation that address minor’s property, how the Manitoba legal regime impacts various types of property, advising the guardian or trustee of assets held on behalf of a minor and the purview of the Public Guardian and Trustee on all matters which affect the rights of a minor.

You will need a computer or laptop (PC or Mac), smartphone or tablet with a microphone and webcam (built-in or external) and an internet connection.

If you will be participating from a laptop, you would also need to install a Zoom Client for Meetings from this site: https://zoom.us/download. If you are unsure whether you have the latest version of Zoom, please follow the instructions HERE.

If you are planning to participate from smartphone or tablet you would need to install an App from the Apple Store or Google Play.   if you are installing the app from the Apple Store or Google Play to use on an iPad, iPhone or Android device or tablet the free app is called “Zoom Cloud Meetings”.

We would recommend that you have either the Zoom Cloud Meetings App or the Zoom Client for Meetings downloaded at least 15 minutes before the meeting.

When you do join, please allow your device to join with audio.  This feature can be found under Join Options in an Apple or Android device or Join with Computer Audio if you are participating on a laptop.

All participants should ensure they have set up their Zoom information to display your actual name (not just your device name) so that everyone knows who is on the call and anyone not invited to attend will be more easily identified, this also helps us properly track attendance at PD sessions.

At approximately 9:30am on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 an email will be sent from the MBA advising you of the link that you will click on to join the Zoom video conference meeting.  So it will be important to register before 5:00pm on Monday, November 15, 2021.

Attendance at this MBA meeting can be applied towards your Law Society of Manitoba’s Continuing Professional Development for a maximum of 1.5 hours.
