SPEAKERS:
Allison Fenske, Legal Aid Manitoba – Public Interest Law Centre
Byron Williams, Legal Aid Manitoba – Public Interest Law Centre
Monique St. Germain, Canadian Centre for Child Protection Inc.

Social context evidence includes reports, statistics and other information that provides a relevant framework for legal decision makers. Panelists will share innovative ways they have tendered social context evidence in court, tips and challenges associated with this evidence, and their perspectives on its significance. This session will be informative for varied areas of law including human rights/equality, criminal, family, consumer protection, and more.

Please RSVP (PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED) to the Manitoba Bar Association online at www.cbapd.org.

You will need a computer or laptop (PC or Mac), smartphone or tablet with a microphone and webcam (built-in or external) and an internet connection.

If you will be participating from a laptop, you would also need to install a Zoom Client for Meetings from this site: https://zoom.us/download. If you are unsure whether you have the latest version of Zoom, please follow the instructions HERE.

If you are planning to participate from smartphone or tablet you would need to install an App from the Apple Store or Google Play.   if you are installing the app from the Apple Store or Google Play to use on an iPad, iPhone or Android device or tablet the free app is called “Zoom Cloud Meetings”.

We would recommend that you have either the Zoom Cloud Meetings App or the Zoom Client for Meetings downloaded at least 15 minutes before the meeting.

When you do join, please allow your device to join with audio.  This feature can be found under Join Options in an Apple or Android device or Join with Computer Audio if you are participating on a laptop.

All participants should ensure they have set up their Zoom information to display your actual name (not just your device name) so that everyone knows who is on the call and anyone not invited to attend will be more easily identified, this also helps us properly track attendance at PD sessions.

If you are having troubles, please email sections@cba-mb.ca.

At approximately 9:30am on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 an email will be sent from the MBA advising you of the link that you will click on to join the Zoom video conference meeting.  So it will be important to register before 5:00pm on Monday, November 22, 2021.

Attendance at this MBA Section meeting can be applied towards your Law Society of Manitoba’s Continuing Professional Development requirement for a maximum of 1.5 hours.
