The legal landscape: child-welfare reporting tips and landmark cases

Right now, Indigenous communities across the country are reclaiming jurisdiction over their own child and family services, and a disproportionately white media is ill-equipped to cover this huge story.

In this workshop, legal experts will speak to Bill C-92 and the ways in which Indigenous communities are taking power back from colonial governments. They’ll speak to landmark child welfare cases and how journalists have covered them. And they’ll share their ideas for better reporting.

This marks the final workshop in Spotlight: Child Welfare’s series for journalists in Canada who wish to report accurately and ethically on the so-called “child welfare” system, using trauma-informed practices.
