The Separation Date Assessment Guide and How to Use It

This is an 1-hour Zoom presentation from Ontario family law lawyers, Yunjae Kim and David Frenkel, on the Separation Date Assessment Guide that they have developed.  The Guide was originally published in the Canadian Family Law Quarterly in 2022.

The presentation will explain the Guide and how to use it with respect to separation date cases in a Manitoba context and highlight the important evidentiary principles to consider.  The presenters have prepared helpful checklists that will be distributed to all attendees.

Yunjae Kim is a partner at a Toronto-based firm, Birenbaum Steinberg Landau Savin & Colraine LLP.  Yunjae’s practice involves a broad range of family law matters with complex financial and parenting issues, including complex business valuation and income assessment issues, pensions, tax issues, among others.  Yunjae regularly appears before the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice. Yunjae also regularly represents clients in alternative dispute resolution forums, including negotiation, mediation and arbitration. Yunjae is collaboratively trained and practices collaborative family law.

David Frenkel is a partner at Frenkel Tobin LLP.  David has practiced exclusively in the area of family law since 2008. David’s work has previously been published in the Canadian Family Law Quarterly, Money and Family Law, the Ontario Bar Association Matrimonial Affairs, and the Canadian Lawyer Magazine. David has also been featured as a contributor in the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star. David’s previous speaking engagements include the AFCC, MPAC, CCPA and the Annual Family Law Summit. David has also co-authored a book on assisting family law clients addressing their emotional side of divorce, titled My Divorce Journal: A Guided Path To Moving Forward (2022).
