As September 30, 2023 falls on a Saturday, the Manitoba Courts will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Monday, October 2, 2023, and will not be sitting on that day.
The Great Library’s physical space will be closed for the day, but we are still open virtually and available by email at library@lawsociety.mb.ca for legal help and research.
Please be advised that there will be a swearing-in ceremony for The Honourable Marianne Rivoalen, Chief Justice of Manitoba on Friday, Sept 29, 2023. The library will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. After hours service for the legal profession can resume at 5:00 p.m.

Monday, October 2 – Truth and Reconciliation Day (Courthouse closed)
An Act Respecting the Title of “Associate Judge” received royal assent on May 30, 2023. The Bill comes into force on September 27, 2023. The Bill amends The Court of King’s Bench Act to change the designation of judicial officers appointed under Division 2 of Part IV of the Act from “master” to “associate judge”. In view of the amendments, necessary changes are being made to the Court of King’s Bench Rules, as well as to the website, court forms, and courthouse signage.
To accommodate the increased needs of disposition time and Mental Health Court courtroom 306 is now designated a DCD sitting on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Motions will now only be heard on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 2:00PM in courtroom 306. Matters from the Provincial Court counter(PCC) will continue to be heard on any 306 2:00PM docket Monday through Friday.
Effective October 5, 2023, Steinbach will begin a Pre-Trial Coordinator Docket (PTC Docket) as a pilot project. It will sit the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month and will be presided over by a Staff Justice of the Peace.
A Judge’s Docket will be held every Friday, where all contested matters, dispositions, trials and preliminary inquiries can be set.
There are additional sittings and changes to Little Grand Rapids and St. Theresa Point, as well as changes to the Pine Falls youth docket.
