SPEAKER:  Melinda Moch, MLT Aikins LLP

Registration is open to members of the Manitoba Bar Association. If you are interested in becoming a member, please email sections@cba-mb.ca.

In the steady business of real estate transactions, practice standards can be key to the success of both the transaction itself and your continuing client relationship.  We will discuss “best practices”  and research tools for addressing legal issues respecting real property.  What searches should be attended to in what situations?  What do the search results actually mean?  How can you / your client use the resulting information?  How are property deficiencies discovered? What resources and tools are available respecting real property research? Outside of searches, how can my client protect themselves?

RSVP (PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED) to the Manitoba Bar Association online at www.cbapd.org. The link to join the meeting will be sent out the morning of the meeting.

You will need a computer or laptop (PC or Mac), smartphone or tablet with a microphone and webcam (built-in or external) and an internet connection.

If you will be participating from a laptop, you would also need to install a Zoom Client for Meetings from this site: https://zoom.us/download. If you are unsure whether you have the latest version of Zoom, please follow the instructions HERE.

If you are planning to participate from smartphone or tablet you would need to install an App from the Apple Store or Google Play.   if you are installing the app from the Apple Store or Google Play to use on an iPad, iPhone or Android device or tablet the free app is called “Zoom Cloud Meetings”.

We would recommend that you have either the Zoom Cloud Meetings App or the Zoom Client for Meetings downloaded at least 15 minutes before the meeting.

When you do join, please allow your device to join with audio.  This feature can be found under Join Options in an Apple or Android device or Join with Computer Audio if you are participating on a laptop.

All participants should ensure they have set up their Zoom information to display your actual name (not just your device name) so that everyone knows who is on the call and anyone not invited to attend will be more easily identified, this also helps us properly track attendance at PD sessions.

If you are having troubles, please email sections@cba-mb.ca.

At approximately 9:30am on Friday, October 15, 2021 an email will be sent from the MBA advising you of the link that you will click on to join the Zoom video conference meeting.  So it will be important to register before 5:00pm on Thursday, October 14, 2021.

Attendance at this MBA Section meeting can be applied towards your Law Society of Manitoba’s Continuing Professional Development requirement for a maximum of 1.5 hours.
