More Manitoba content has been added to CanLII with the Manitoba Annual Statutes. Statutes from 1988 to present are now part of the CanLII database which means you can now use these with CanLII’s features such as creating alerts, finding citing cases, and saving documents to Lexbox, Lexum’s “Online legal research workspace”.
Manitoba content on CanLII now includes decisions from Manitoba Reports, Manitoba Reports (2nd) series and the Revised Manitoba Statutes from 1987.
“Commencing Monday, February 1, 2021, all judge-alone out-of-custody criminal trials will also resume in person.”
Health and safety protocols of the March 13, 2020 notice are still in effect. Portions of the trial may proceed by video conference. To further reduce in-person contact, an upcoming notice will detail email filing requirements and procedures.

New Case Citation Alert for Authors! – Stay up to date with alerts whenever your favorite author has new content, has their works cited, or even similar content to their work has been added.
Starting January 27, 2021, new amendments to the Supreme Court of Canada rules will apply to all cases, including filings in any ongoing cases. These changes are meant to help simplify the leave process. Applications will now consist of the notice of application, lower court decisions and memorandum of argument only. It will also allow for easier electronic filing, with reduced print copies needed.
The SCC website has provided an online guide to help explain these changes. The guidelines and forms have also been updated with these new procedures.
… “[T]he Court’s scheduling protocols as announced in the December 3rd Notice will now also extend and apply to the period of January 11 to 29, 2021.”
… “[C]ommencing Monday, February 1, 2021, where there are counsel representing all parties, all civil trials already scheduled are to be viewed as presumptively proceeding by video hearing”.
