The Manitoba Law Library subscribes to Westlawnext Canada on the computers in the library only. Since the library is closed, that service is no longer available for our members. In partnership with Thomson Reuters, we have crafted a solution to allow individual members of the Law Society of Manitoba to register for a limited use license.
The details:
Contact us at library@lawsociety.mb.ca. We will verify that you are a practising member registered with the Law Society of Manitoba, and email you a OnePass registration key to use for 12 hours only. You will have unlimited access to the products we subscribe to on your own device, which include CriminalSource, FamilySource, Estates&TrustsSource and a portion of Litigator including personal injury quantums.
We can offer up to 10 registration keys per day so it will be first come, first served, and you will be cut off when your time is up.
You can register again, but you will go to the end of the line.
Please pass this along to your colleagues who are not subscribers to Westlaw, so we can support as many of you as possible.
For more information on resources available through the Great Library please read this message from the law society.
The Law Society has a dedicated webpage to news affecting the legal community. Please review it regularly to stay informed.
Manitoba Courts also has posted all their notices on one page. Be sure to check the date beside the title to ensure you are getting the most recent information.
We look forward to returning to the library. Until then, we will do our best with remote services. Please email us at library@lawsociety.mb.ca for any of your legal research needs.
The Manitoba Courts have restricted access to the courts as a proactive measure to reduce and slow down the spread of COVID-19. While the Great Library will remain open, members may prefer to take advantage of our services remotely.
We can scan or download sections of texts and email them to you, subject to copyright restrictions. If you require a complete text, we can prepare it for pickup at the staff entrance on Kennedy. Please contact us by phone or email and we would be happy to help.
This is the time to take advantage of all the resources available to you behind the Member’s Portal. We subscribe to several collections of e-books, the Rangefindr sentencing digest, HeinOnline and the vLex caselaw database.
We will continue to distribute the newsletters in our Current Awareness collection. We know your work doesn’t stand still, and we will support you in whatever way we can. Please contact us by phone (204-945-1958) or email (library@lawsociety.mb.ca).
There are now 10,000 pieces of legal commentary on CanLII, in the form of books, journals, reports, conference proceedings, case commentary and more.
Commentary on CanLII’s platform is searchable alongside our primary law collection, also openly accessible, to facilitate improved access and discoverability of existing secondary content published around the web.
This is an amazing achievement, thanks to the contributions of CanLII’s many partners. Congratulations to all for putting it together and supporting open access to the law.
